JAKARTA - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Center for Oceans Law and Policy Conference (COLP) University of Virginia, the United States will host a Conference on Law of the Sea and Water Policy to the 35th themed Maritime Border Diplomacy.
Of conference will address issues of marine laws and policies, will take place on 22 to June 25, 2011 held at the Conrad Hotel, Bali.
"Implementation of this conference aims to share experiences on the Maritime Border Diplomacy, which is one of Indonesia's foreign policy priorities. Through diplomatic maritime borders, Indonesia can expand the network to strengthen its position in the field of maritime law," said Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press statement sent to Legal, Friday (06/17/2011).
Also at the conference is expected to encourage the birth of a new cadre of skilled in the field of marine law in Indonesia. This conference will be filled by the speakers who are experts in the field of marine law.
The three main speakers in this conference, among others, delivered by Deputy Foreign Minister Triyono Wibowo, a senior diplomat Prof. Dr. Hasjim Djalal and members of the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres) and former Foreign Minister Dr. Wirajuda.
In addition there will be six panels are filled by leading international marine law experts from within and abroad. They will discuss important issues related to Maritime Border Diplomacy.
The conference will be followed by about 150 participants from national and local governments, academics, practitioners and international law experts from Indonesia and Asia.
Organizing the first conference held in Indonesia this has significance for Indonesia as an archipelagic country, has played an active role in the development of the law of the sea, especially in the process of birth of the United Conventions on the Law of the Sea in 1982.
