ISLAMABAD - Pakistani forces succeeded in taking over territory near the Afghan border and killed 40 Taliban militants.
Border Force Operations Commander Brig Aftab Ahmed said that the Taliban put up as many as 115 land mines in the area which is located 75 meters from the border with Afghanistan.
"The whole land mines already tamed," he said as quoted by Deutsche Presse on Thursday (06/30/2011).
A total of 40 militants were also killed in this operation. Pakistani troops deploy combat helicopters in the operation of the Taliban crackdown.
Taliban militants often launch cross border attacks on the Afghan border. Taliban militants in border activities are also often disrupt relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan. A few days ago, Afghanistan has accused Pakistan fired rockets at the border.
