KABUL - An estimated 10 Afghan civilians were killed when a man blew himself up at a hotel in Kabul.
After blasting action, the direct NATO helicopters stormed the hotel and killed threerebels in a shootout on a rooftop. The fighting occurred on the morning local time.
"As many as 10 people including the hotel staff were killed when six suicide bombersattacked the Hotel Intercontinental," said Kabul police chief Mohammad Zahir, as quoted by the Associated Press on Wednesday (06/29/2011).
Taliban militants suspected as the responsible party in the hotel attack. After fourexplosions occurred at the hotel, NATO helicopters appeared and attacked the militants.
Hotel Intercontinental is a place frequented by foreigners. It was reported severalprovincial governor in central Afghanistan, staying at the hotel.
Hotel Intercontinental which was attacked by the Taliban, was built in late 1960 and is the most luxurious hotel in Afghanistan first. The hotel had 200 rooms, but when the Soviet Union into Afghanistan, the hotel is neglected.
